We don't row, we paddle!

Blackwattle Bay Dragon Boat Club

Blackwattle Bay Dragon Boat Club or BWB as we are more affectionately known trains out of Blackwattle Bay near the Sydney Fish Markets.

We were established in 2006 giving the Sydney Junior Dragon Boat Team a home and in 2007 our Junior Team won silver and bronze medals at the Australian National Championships and the BWB Subs Junior Women’s Crew representing Australia at the 2007 IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championship scoring two silver medals.

With our juniors now growing up, BWB expanded our horizons in 2010 to include Premiers and Masters and we now have almost 60 members and are growing by 20% each year.

BWB is known for being one of the friendliest most inclusive clubs around, with our members ranging from 15 to 55+ across all cultural backgrounds and all fitness levels.

We train three times a week on water and BWB’s off water social activities always involve food. We also train through winter in preparation for our annual overseas regatta trips as Southern Cross Dragons, a combined team of BWB and other dragon boating friends.

BWB’s head coach Sylvia Wong has been involved in dragon boat racing since 1995. Her involvement in national and international campaigns in many different capacities: Paddler, Sweep, Team Manager and Coach. She is BWB’s coach, motivator and chief entertainer and supported by a strong committee and involved crew.
